I've stopped using the debian package.  First, there was the 
issue with \\ vs ,, and then after an upgrade VO stopped working 
entirely.  I never did figure out why.  So, I just did a local 
install in ~/.vim/, checked it into subversion, and now it's 
automatically installed on every host with my shell config.
