Thanks Javier,
I haven't written a book in MS Word since writing "Rapid Learning: Secret
Weapon of the Successful Technologist" in 1999. All books after that were
written in LyX. I thought Word was wonderful til I really got to know LyX,
after which Word looked like chopped liver.
I write books in LyX instead of LaTeX for the same reason I write web pages in
Mozilla Composer instead of Vim: When in author mode, my technical IQ drops
to 69. I can write great code, or write great content, but can't do both at
the same time. Hence I never write content in environments requiring me to
code tags and the like.
In LyX, I go into programmer mode and, within the layout file, code up all my
environments and character styles. Then I go into author mode and apply all
those environments and character styles within the LyX authoring environment.
Works out great, yields good looking output.
I'd be interested in hearing more about vimlatex.
