Hi all,

LyX, the book writing software I use, has outline mode just like MS Word. It's
available in their 1.5.x version, which so far is beta.

Outline mode is a feature where you can take your book and view it as an
outline, with parts, chapters, sections, subsections etc being outline
headlines. Then, in outline mode, you can actually move the headings around
to change the structure of your book. A REALLY good feature.

In the past, when I proclaimed MS Word to be "the best book writing software
ever", it was because it had outline mode.

LyX outline mode isn't a replacement for VimOutliner, because VimOutliner is
much faster -- it's intended to be used as an outliner. My recommendation is
to make the initial outline in VimOutliner, convert it to a LyX book
skeleton, and then from then on manage the book structure in LyX outline
mode.
