Rereading the preceding, I realize it looks like I want to change the existing 
UI, which of course is not my wish. I'd like to *add* an additional braindead 
UI for people valuing "user friendly" over "fast", and for people just 
starting out who use the braindead UI as a stepping stone to the "classic" VO 
UI.
