I have admit to a great deal of confusion as to why Esc is a problem at
all. On my Cirque keyboard (designed after the Microsoft Natural
keyboard), it sits in the upper left, above tilde, to the left of F1.
Anyone who uses vim on an "every day" basis must quickly develop the
muscle memory needed to hit Esc without looking. For me, Esc is no
harder than Backspace. In fact, it's easier, because the Esc key is set
off from the rest, so I don't have to be as accurate.
I happen to be a very quick touch typist, but I'm surprised at the
lengths you folks are going to simply to avoid the Esc key. If Esc is
in a bad location for you, can't you go buy a different keyboard?
